Could you introduce yourself?

My name’s Uzo Okoye. I am currently a Technical Delivery Manager and bring over twenty years of experience in implementing IT systems across a range of sectors, including Not-for-Profits, Health, Entertainment, Consultancy, and Transport. 

Over the years, I’ve become increasingly passionate about the role of AI and emerging technologies in solving complex business challenges and driving operational efficiency, and I have enrolled in research on the development of an AI implementation and adoption framework for predictive maintenance in renewable infrastructure, particularly wind turbines.

What motivated you to enrol in papAI Academy programme?

 I signed up because I wanted a more hands-on, practical understanding of how AI is applied in real-world scenarios. There’s so much hype around AI, but I was looking to go beyond the surface and gain concrete skills and have a practical overview. 

The program aligned perfectly with my research on AI-driven predictive maintenance in the renewables sector. While I had studied the topic and had some exposure to its concepts, I saw this as an opportunity to strengthen my technical understanding and get closer to what a real AI solution for predictive maintenance might look like in practice.

How would you describe your overall experience with papAI Academy courses?

 Overall, it was a very positive experience. The content was well structured and broken into manageable, digestible sections. It was approachable, even for someone who isn’t technical, and the hands-on exercises really helped ground the theory in practice.

Which specific skills or concepts did you find most valuable during the training?

One of the most valuable aspects was learning the full lifecycle of an AI implementation product—from data ingestion and processing, to building pipelines for training and testing, through to model deployment. 

The sections on data preparation and model evaluation were particularly enlightening. They gave me practical insight into how data quality and model performance are assessed, and how that feeds into better decision-making—key for any predictive maintenance system.

How did papAI Academy help you better understand or work with AI projects?

It’s definitely boosted my confidence. I now have a much clearer view of what’s required to deliver an AI product, and I feel more comfortable collaborating with technical teams. It’s also helped me see how AI solutions can be effectively aligned with business objectives—particularly in critical areas like maintenance forecasting and operational planning.

Were there any modules or exercises that you found particularly challenging?

Yes, some of the more technical modules, particularly around model tuning and evaluation metrics, were initially a challenge. But I appreciated the stretch, and revisiting those areas helped me consolidate my understanding and appreciate the complexities involved.
