My name is Amine, I was born in Tizi Ouzou, Algeria, and I am currently a third-year undergraduate student in Economics and Management at the University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). As part of my academic program, I am completing an internship as a financial assistant. This internship is a valuable opportunity for me to apply the knowledge I’ve gained during my studies while discovering the day-to-day operations of a finance department within a company.

Can you tell us about your role at the Datategy, and what kind of projects or initiatives you have been working on during your internship?

I had the opportunity to work closely with the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, supporting her in a wide range of operational and strategic finance tasks. I gained hands-on experience in financial operations within a dynamic tech environment and developed a stronger understanding of how finance supports business growth and performance at Datategy.

My responsibilities included assisting in the daily management and accurate recording of financial transactions, helping to maintain up-to-date and reliable accounting records. I also took part in organizing and analyzing different categories of operational and project-related expenses, with the goal of identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving financial reporting processes

How have Datategy teams help you to develop your skills and competencies in the data industry, and what have you learned during your time in the program?

Even though my role in finance was quite different from Datategy’s core focus on data and artificial intelligence, the work environment allowed me to better understand the challenges of the sector and become familiar with how a tech company operates.

The teams, although working on different missions, were always supportive and approachable, which helped me feel comfortable quickly and integrate easily. Through this experience, I learned a lot about company culture, interdepartmental communication, and the importance of collaboration—even between teams with very different responsibilities.

What kind of mentorship and support have you received during your internship, and how has this helped you to navigate your first professional experience?

Throughout my internship, I received regular and supportive guidance from my supervisor and the entire Finance and Administration team. I was given a certain level of autonomy while always having someone available to answer my questions or provide guidance when needed.

I also received clear explanations about the tools and processes in place, which helped me quickly develop new skills. This support boosted my confidence, improved my attention to detail, and helped me adapt to the pace of working in a company—something essential for a first professional experience. Thanks to this guidance, I was able to progress effectively and feel legitimate in the tasks I was given.

How has the Datategy Early Careers Program fostered a sense of initiative and team spirit among its participants, and what values do you think are important for success in the data industry?

The Datategy Early Careers Program encouraged me to take initiative and work independently, while still being well supported. I was quickly integrated into the team and was able to contribute actively, even as an intern.

Curiosity is key; you need to constantly seek to understand complex systems and stay on top of emerging trends. Attention to detail is crucial, especially when dealing with data integrity or financial accuracy. Being a team player ensures you’re able to collaborate across diverse functions, and finally, a strong sense of ethics is non-negotiable, particularly when working with sensitive data or building AI systems that impact people’s lives.

Can you share any challenges or obstacles that you have faced during your internship, and how you have overcome them with the support of Datategy teams?

My main challenge was adapting to a professional environment that was completely new to me, especially within a tech company. Coming from an academic background, I initially felt out of my depth, not just because of the pace, but also due to the complexity of processes and the specialized language used in finance and data-driven contexts. However, thanks to the team’s support, patience, and willingness to explain things clearly, I was able to gradually get up to speed.

I appreciated how approachable everyone was, regardless of seniority. Whether it was understanding internal tools, navigating cross-functional communication, or simply learning how decisions were made in a fast-growing company like Datategy, I never felt left alone. Daily stand-ups, one-on-one check-ins, and spontaneous team interactions gave me both the structure and the flexibility I needed to learn and grow.

How has the Datategy supported diversity and inclusion among its participants, and what impact has this had on your experience in the program?

At Datategy, I noticed a strong open-mindedness and a work environment where everyone is respected, regardless of their background or profile. The team is diverse, which encourages enriching exchanges and creates a positive atmosphere. This inclusive culture made me feel comfortable from the very beginning, which had a very positive impact on my integration and motivation throughout the internship.

What do you hope to achieve during your time at the Datategy, and how do you see this experience helping you to achieve your long-term career goals in the data industry?

During my internship at Datategy, my goal was to better understand the professional environment I want to grow in. Working in a company specialized in data allowed me to discover the key challenges and dynamics of the industry. In the long term, I aim to work directly in the data field, and this experience has given me a solid foundation to guide my career in that direction.

I had the opportunity to observe firsthand how finance interacts with data, particularly in budgeting for tech development, analyzing client profiles, and supporting sustainable growth. This opened my eyes to how multidisciplinary and fast-paced the data industry is where every function, even finance, must be agile and future-oriented.

What advice would you give to other young graduates or students who are interested in applying for the Datategy Early Careers Program, and how can they make the most of this opportunity to develop their skills and launch their careers in the data industry?

I would encourage any students or recent graduates interested in the Datategy Early Careers Program to go ahead and apply, even if they don’t have direct experience in data yet. The most important things are to be curious, motivated, and eager to learn. Once in the role, it’s important to get involved, ask questions, and make the most of the stimulating environment Datategy offers. It’s a great opportunity to build practical skills and take your first steps into a fast-growing industry.
